New items on groups web site

The web site now features a 24 hour world clock. The clock is located on =
the front page at the bottom and allows you to select any time zone in =
the world and obtain the correct time. This in conjunction with our =
solar news service and local weather service keep you up to date at all =
times.

Radio Expo News

A special thankyou to Linda Jones at the Volunteer Coastal Patrol Coffs =
Harbour for the use of their tables for our up coming Expo.

A thankyou to Carol VK2FCSR for doing the regular follow up with our =
exhibitors this week. Carol has phoned all the major exhibitors to =
ensure that all their needs are meet and provide assistance where =
required. Carol also finalized all the arrangements at St Johns Church =
Hall last week with an "on site" inspection as well.

An  acknowledgement to the work put in preparation by "Jenny"  Peters =
VK2EVB wife for the organization of the canteen and the yummy menu that =
she has organized.

Thankyou also goes to Radio Supply Pty Ltd for donating ALL the prizes =
for the  lucky door prizes, guessing comp, trivia and general knowledge =
quiz (Valued at over $300.00). Thankyou to Andrews Communications for =
their donation to the members prize and to Radio Supply Pty Ltd for the =
gifts included in this draw. The members ONLY prize in total comes to =
over $400.00 in value !

Avcomm an exhibitor at Expo 2010 is featuring DRM digital shortwave =
radios and also portable shortwave radios that feature DSP. In addition =
they are also showcasing their new "Passive Loop" antenna for portable =
radios for use on the AM broadcast band. This will be the first public =
release of this product. ! All here in Coffs Harbour !

Remember also that Amsat Australia will be conducting live demos and =
communications via satellite with the current active amateur satellites =
in orbit at this time. A feature will be demos of the ease of access to =
these "BIRDS" and the simple antennas that are now used to access the =
new type of FM repeater satellites in orbit.
No expensive hardware required ! A dual band duplex handheld and a =
antenna on both 2 and 70cm and you are on the air. As demonstrated at =
the recent Blue Mountains Ham Fest. Its easy and fun...........

6 Mtr Repeater=20

This week Carol VK2FCSR contacted the WIA in Melbourne about our =
repeater license progress and has been actively following this up on =
behalf of the group. Carol expects an answer from the Melbourne office =
this coming week.

New Kits for 2010

A new range of kits are to be released over the course of 2010. They =
include:-

  a.. RF Current Meter
  b.. Field Strength Meter
  c.. Diplexor
  d.. Magnetic Balun for Shortwave Receiver use
  e.. Dual Band VHF/UHF Yagi antenna for satellite work

The RF Current Meter and Magnetic Balun will be on display at the next =
group meeting. The above kits have been developed over the last 8 months =
and are now in the final stages prior to release. The release will be =
progressive over the next 12 months and will add to the already popular =
range of kits now sold by the group.

As always all the kits feature:-

  a.. Simple construction, designed to be built in a afternoon
  b.. Use basic hand tools and a soldering iron
  c.. Use only locally available materials all sourced within Australia
  d.. Provide a useful addition to the radios hobbyist
  e.. Fun and educational to build
  f.. Encourage home construction of equipment
