Port is = a great location at this time of the year for a visit. Entry is only $5.00 Located at Sea Scouts Hall, Buller Street Port Macquarie, next door to = the Country Comfort Motor Inn 80 Mtr Kits arrived ! To all our members that ordered this great kit they have all arrived = safely and have been distributed. The Kit is well presented and very = professional. The PC board is first class. Now it is time to get = building. Bellingen and Coffs Harbour now drying out. Following our third flood for this year we are in the dry out stage. = Damage around the region is widespread and very costly. Many roads will = take months to repair and a number of bridges are closed and will remain = that way for some time. All members are reminded to travel safely and = look out for road changes. In particular the Dorrigo Mountain road between Thora and Dorrigo is = very unstable and is controlled by traffic lights and stop go traffic = control. A number of landslips are on the mountain road and extreme care = is required. It is not recommended to travel on this road at night or in = extreme heavy rain till further notice. Changes at Dick Smith Electronics I have spoken to a number of store personal recently and I am advised = that the intention of Dick Smith Electronics is to totally get out of = individual component supply. This includes:- Coax connectors, resistors, capacitors, and most semiconductors, = switches and other loose components. They also are getting out of the = supply of communications products, staying with only a limited range of = UHF CB portable and mobile product. The supply of test equipment is also = to be down sized and reviewed. The intention is to have only a limited supply of electronic components = in bundled plastic bags ONLY. And at a premium price !=20 The company is focusing on consumer electronics, IE:- Low end TVs, sound = systems, toys, computers and other current trend electronic items. So where to from here ? We as amateurs now more then ever must support companies that bring to = market the items we need. Our groups web site is a good start as we have = a number of links to suppliers that have an excellent range of gear and = components. Suppliers/Traders that attend field days need your support as well. Companies like Oatley Electronics, Altronics and Jaycar are excellent = suppliers as well and all provide a mail order service.
