The MNCARG Effort Award. The "Silver Mic"
The MNCARG Effort Award is
presented at the groups annual general meeting. It is to recognise the member
who has put in most effort to the advancement of amateur radio during the past
year. Not for the "high profile" work that everyone hears about, but for the
people who work unnoticed in the background. Doing the work that keeps our group
alive and able to achieve its goals. Hence making amateur radio better in the
process. The award is given to
another member each year. The last member to be presented the award has to
present it to someone next year.
In keeping with MNCARGs philosophies, the award is of "home
brew" construction (its always more fun if you built it yourself) and therefore
did not use any of the funds we reserve for our amateur radio projects.
At the AGM on 6th April 2008, the MNCARG
Effort Award was presented to Peter VK2EVB in recognision of the effort and
considerable number of hours he has put into the Ozi-pole project. Peter built
the portable multi-band dipole. Tested the prototypes. Sourced the parts.
Produced a workable kit. Wrote and published the instruction books. Then
marketed and sold the kits as well.
We all helped whenever we were able to,
but the huge majority of the effort on this project was Peters.
The Ozi-pole
kit sales have been the major scource of income for MNCARG with around 50 being
sold in the first year. If it were not for Peters determination and enthusiasm
the MNCARG would not have been able to buy two brand new commercially built
repeater stations within eleven months of the groups creation.
Thanks
Peter.
